If your piano has any issues, please consult Musashi Gakki.

Whether you need to repair a broken piano, want to pass on a piano that hasn’t been used in a while, or find your current piano hard to play, we may be able to resolve these issues through repair.

Examples of Piano Repair Work

Balance & Front Bushing Cloth Replacement

We replace the cloth behind the keys. This helps prevent and improve key wobbling and noise. In addition, we polish the pins that directly contact the cloth. By removing rust, dust, and other debris from the pins, the movement of the keys after the cloth replacement becomes smoother.

The bushing cloth is worn. When this part wears out, it leads to key wobbling.
We replaced the felt, which makes the key movement smoother.
Wood End Replacement

We replace the front part of the keys. Due to aging, discoloration, and deformation, this replacement helps prevent and improve not only visual changes but also any issues with key movement.

Due to aging, the color has dulled, and dirt has become noticeable.
We replaced the wood end, and now it's shining like new.
White Key Surface Replacement

When the white key surfaces show cracks, discoloration, or damage that can’t be improved just by polishing, we replace the material. Especially with young children whose skin is soft, damaged keys could lead to injury, so we recommend early replacement when issues are spotted. (Note: We do not replace with ivory keys.)

The key surface is cracked due to deterioration.
We strip the surface material of the key and replace it with new key material.
The key surface is now brand new!
Black Key Replacement

We handle issues such as cracks or material changes. Please contact us for more details, including pricing.

Flange Code Replacement (Upright Pianos Only)

This part is only found in upright pianos. It consists of thin cord-like parts that, due to aging, can break or discolor. If left unreplaced, it can cause double sounds with a single key strike or interfere with the spring on the chord, causing noise and other issues. We recommend early replacement when such deterioration is found.

The cord just above the silver rail is brownish and some parts are already broken.
We remove all the hammers and replace the cord from the backside of the action.
After replacement, the white new cord is attached.
Muffler Replacement

The muffler is a felt part that is inserted between the hammer and the strings when the soft pedal is used. It softens the sound by allowing the hammer to strike the strings through the muffler. Due to long-term use and wear, mufflers can develop holes or become frayed. As deterioration progresses, their functionality is impaired, so we replace the felt at the appropriate time.

The muffler is deteriorated and has moth damage, making the felt fall apart.
We replace it with new felt by hand.
Hammerhead Replacement (Including Tone Regulation)

As described in the "Tone Regulation" section of our tuning and regulation services, there are limits. If the hammers are severely deteriorated or have reached the end of their life (such as with punctures), we will replace the hammerheads entirely.

Stringing

If a string breaks, we will replace it. (The photo shows the replacement of all strings during a grand piano overhaul.)

There are about 230 strings, each replaced by hand.
All the strings have been neatly replaced.
